Jessica Toupin, lyric soprano, was most recently seen playing the title role of Rose Maurrrant in Kurt Weill’s Street Scene with Opera McGill. L’Opéra Reveue québécoise d’art lyrique gave a glowing review, saying that “Jessica Toupin plays this complex and confusing situation wonderfully, served by a soft, lyrical voice which brings out all the fragility of the character”.

This past summer, Jessica was a Festival Artist at Opera Saratoga, covering the title role of Gretel in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel, a role which she debuted at UMass Amherst in 2018. She has also covered the role of Antonia in Tales of Hoffmann, as a Resident Artist with Opera North. In 2017, Jessica had the pleasure of making her international debut with the AIMS Orchestra under the baton of Lukas Beikircher in Graz, Austria. In addition to standard repertoire, Jessica also enjoys premiering new music. That same year, Jessica debuted the role of Hestor Prynne with 5 College Opera in Eric Sawyer’s The Scarlet Professor. More recently, she was the soprano soloist in the world premiere of Raphaël-Tristan Jouville’s Du coton dans les oreilles with the McGill Contemporary Music Ensemble. She has also been featured as the soprano soloist in Dvorak’s Mass in D (McGill Concert Choir), Fauré’s Requiem (Mount Holyoke College) and Brahms’ Requiem (Pioneer Valley Symphony).

As a recent graduate of The University of Massachusetts Amherst, Jessica received dual degrees in Vocal Performance and Mathematics with high honors. While attending UMass Amherst, she won 1st place in the UMass Music and Dance Concerto Competition.

Jessica is now receiving her Masters degree in Opera & Voice Performance at the Schulich School of Music at McGill University. Originally in the summer of 2020, Jessica was thrilled to return to Opera Saratoga to sing the leading role of Mabel in Pirates of Penzance and as the soprano soloist in Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle. However, these engagements have been cancelled due to COVID-19. You can still engage with her and the other artists of Opera Saratoga virtually through their “Opera Saratoga: Connect! Daily” on their website and Facebook page.
